Gov. Abbott, UT System Break Ground on UT Tyler Medical Education Building

TYLER, Texas - Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined UT System leaders today to break ground on UT Tyler’s new Medical Education Building, which will house the university’s new School of Medicine and the 7th medical school within the UT System. Gov. Abbott, UT System Chairman Kevin Eltife, UT System Chancellor James Milliken and UT Tyler President Kirk Calhoun joined hundreds of community members to mark the start of the $308 million project, expected to be completed in March 2025.

UT System Receives $1.5 Million Grant to Expand Microcredential Initiative 

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas System has been awarded a Phase 2 grant through Strada Education Network’s $10 million Beyond Completion Challenge. Strada awarded the $1.5 million grant as part of an effort to support higher education institutions substantially expand promising efforts to improve long-term outcomes for many more students, especially those who historically have faced the greatest barriers in education and the workforce. 

UT System and Google announce Google Career Certificates for up to 10,000 Texas university students

AUSTIN, TEXAS –The University of Texas System and Google today hosted U.S. Senator John Cornyn and several leaders in Texas higher education and workforce development to announce the availability of Google Career Certificates to thousands of students across eight University of Texas academic institutions. The certificates equip people with job-ready skills in the fields of data analytics, e-commerce and digital marketing, IT Support, automation in python, project management and user experience (UX) design.

UT Regents Approve Project Cost of $308M for UT Tyler Medical Education Building Construction

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas Board of Regents today gave final authorization for design, development, and additional construction funding for the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine’s new Medical Education Building – approving a total project cost of $308 million for the facility. The UT Tyler School of Medicine will welcome its first cohort of students to campus in the summer of 2023 and the building is expected to be completed in March 2025.
